The Meissner granite was called before 1914 Rose de Saxe and giant stone granite. Also widespread is the name Meissner Red granite. The name refers to a huge stone quarry, which is located today in the city of Meissen, is filled up with water and serves as Tauchersee.
The mittelkssrnige Meissner granite is light to meat-red. It is composed of 38% orthoclase, 32% quartz, 23% plagioclase, biotite and 4% to 1% Hoematit and magnetite. Accessory minerals in the rock form muscovite, zircon and apatite.
