Company Description
Our activity of stone extraction on the Salento territory has very distant origins, precisely since 1963.
Initially the quarry was located in Vitigliano, a hamlet of Santa Cesarea Terme (LE), in the district "Acquatenule", later moved to "Casalicchio", on the provincial road that leads from Vitigliano to Cerfignano (hamlet of Santa Cesarea Terme).
The quarry for the extraction of the stone
Our quarry has different types of mechanical systems for processing the quarried material. There are crushers and sieves for the production of aggregates, a sawmill plant for making interior and exterior cladding slabs, a drying and pulverizing plant.
The excavation to date covers an area of three hectares and is about thirty meters deep, for a total volume of 900 cubic meters, it develops vertically (front of attack) and in horizontal depth (advanced). The extraction basin, a surface to be engaged of 10 hectares, is represented by the calcareous rock called "White Santa Cesarea", typical hard compact limestone and not very homogeneous (living stone), which can be seen as the skeleton and skeleton of the Serre Salentine. It varies very much according to the districts and also in the same stone for color, structure, hardness, density, resistance to pressure and is formed by calcium carbonate, with small amounts of clay and iron oxide which, as a result, gives off the red earth or bolus.
piles of sand The extraction of the material is carried out with mechanical excavators, the procedure is simple, even if it is demanding from the organizational point of view. In fact, being necessary to obtain large blocks, the preparation of mines requires very special care and skills. In the days before the glazing, with a drilling machine holes are made in the rock to be demolished, for a depth of about twelve meters, where the explosive will fall. Once the rock is demolished, the mechanical excavator reduces it into smaller portions and a mechanical shovel transfers it to a large truck that will empty it into a "primary" crusher not far away. From here there are various conveyor belts that sort the material into a "roughing screen" and then deposited it in temporary piles that will be transferred to secondary mills, where the stone is selected according to the granulometry (sand, gravel, gravel, etc ..) .
