Description:

The bluish-grey to beige-brown Muschelkalk (shell limestone) from the Triassic period (Upper Muschelkalk) is extracted from the Bohleite quarry near Gossmannsdorf in the Würzburg district. Bohleite Muschelkalk is highly valued as a natural stone cladding for facades because of its characteristic texture and colour. It was used, for example, on the Campus und Westhafen Torhaus office building in Frankfurt/Main. Many historic buildings dating from about 1900 are built of the Limestone from Winterhausen.

Can Germany's Bohleite Limestone be used exterior applications in very rainy climates?
Germanys Bohleite Limestone can potentially be used for exterior applications in very rainy climates, but it is important to consider its porosity and water absorption characteristics before making a decision. Limestone is a natural stone that has varying degrees of porosity, which affects its ability to absorb and retain water. In very rainy climates, where there is constant exposure to water, using a highly porous limestone may not be the best choice as it can easily absorb moisture and become damaged over time. However, if the Bohleite Limestone has a low porosity and is properly sealed or treated with a water repellent solution, it can withstand exterior applications in rainy climates. Sealing the stone will help minimize water absorption and protect it from potential damage caused by constant exposure to moisture. It is always recommended to consult with a professional stone supplier or architect who is knowledgeable about the specific characteristics and capabilities of the Bohleite Limestone you are considering, especially when using it in exterior applications in very rainy climates. They will be able to provide specific advice on its suitability for your project and recommend the necessary treatment or maintenance requirements for long-term durability.
