Beige-brown Muschelkalk (shell limestone) from the Triassic period (Upper Muschelkalk) is extracted from the Burenbruch quarry near Winterhausen in the Würzburg district. Burenbruch Muschelkalk is highly valued for building natural stone facades because of its characteristic texture and colour. It was used, for example, for the Bayerische Landesbank in Luxembourg and for the Beisheim Center in Berlin.
Many historic buildings dating from about 1900 are built of the Limestone from Winterhausen.
