Product Description
Alabaster-Onyx Quarry
The first use of alabaster could date back to Roman times. , although it is possible that
earlier cultures, such as the Iberians and Celts, used it for sculpting decorations and
religious figures
During the middle Ages, alabaster was mainly used in the production of windows.
In the late 14th and during the 15th centuries, alabaster art underwent a significant
development in works of a religious and monumental nature.
Alabaster mines are extremely rare, not only in Iran but also in other countries.
In European countries, these stones are placed in groups of onyx.
According to the information I've gained, the whole world alabaster mines are very rare.
Especially intact (Without fractures or cracks) and large blocks are extremely rare.
Basic or raw alabaster appears in the forms of closed round stones in different sizes.
Large blocks are generally hard to come by and are very valuable.
You can see some pictures from Alabaster quarries and blocks in the world.

1-Alabaster and Onyx:
There are some differences between alabaster and onyx.
In terms of chemically, alabaster is calcium sulfate and onyx is calcium carbonate. Also onyx
is harder than alabaster. On base of moho`s scale, the degree of hardness of onyx is 3 and
the alabaster’s is 2.
In European countries, this stones (Alabaster) are placed in groups of onyx.
2- Alabaster and new architectural concept:
Alabaster is a natural stone, making each piece unique and different. These qualities are accentuated by the fact that its
translucency highlights the streaks it contains when alabaster is illuminated by either natural or artificial lighting.
The peculiar translucent properties of this material filter the light and diffuse it, eliminating the harsh and sometimes cold effect
of direct light.
