The renowned Derbyshire stone, Hopton Wood stone has been used extensively on the floors of the ‘Palace of the Peak District’ Chatsworth House (17th century) and Houses of Parliament. It was laid in conjunction with a native black stone (which is no longer available) to create the first checkerboard floor in England. The Hopton Wood limestone is light beige/white in colour with it’s characteristics being brought to life when polished. This popular limestone is an excellent example of a traditional stone from Middle England. Hopton Wood naturally varies in colour from a light to a dark shade. Typical limestone slab size 1.4 x 1.0m however varies. It cannot be guaranteed that new Hopton Wood slab will match exactly samples given out.
