Alabaster is a stone . allows light to pass through it. The mineral alabaster is what is widely used for decorative materials. It is a very durable stone and can be made from two different types of minerals. Alabaster stone is popular among sculptors and architects because of the stability it has once it is formed. There are many places that alabaster will form all over the world. You can find it in many different colors, shapes, and forms. Alabaster stone was widely used in ancient Egypt for jars. The stone was found easy to sculpt and made storing things easy.

1. There are three different types of alabaster stone. Each type is found to have a different chemical compound. It is commonly found in white, pink, or a cream color. There are some rare colors that have been found in a few places. These colors can include black, a yellowish color, and translucent. The black alabaster stone is the rarest to find. There are only four geological veins worldwide that mine the black alabaster. Iran (persianalabaster co ),Oklahoma, Italy, and China are the only places you can find black alabaster.

The calcite alabaster can be made thin enough to be used for decorative windows. The most elaborate example is at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, California.
