Sublayers are separated from each other by 0, 5-2, 0m horizontally located limy layers, which reach through interconnected cross-section cracks. Presence of aragonite, hematite and psilomelane is responsible for travertine layer palette varying from milky-white to brownish-yellow. The physical and mechanical parameters of Ararat region travertine deposits meet the international standards for production of the blocks used in the "know-how" of facing tiles and slabs. On a chemical compound travertine is allocated with low contents iron-magnesium oxide. Travertine’s specific total natural radionuclide activity level is at 8-10 micro roentgen/hour, which corresponds to first class standards and is within radioactive safety norms. Thus, it can be used in all building constructions without any restrictions. The area of the deposit is 10 hectares; its capacity is around 3 mln m3. The development of the deposit began in October 2007. In October 2008, quarry-capping works were finished.
