Nephrite Composition:

Nephrite is a microcrystalline interlocking fibrous matrix of calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole mineral of the series tremolite-actinolite. Nephrite ranks 6.0 – 6.8 on Moh’s Hardness scale with a specific gravity of ~2.95.

History:

Nephrite jade is the official native stone of China, with over 7000 years in the country’s culture and history. This nephrite is coming from a sacred area in which the buddah was to have blessed located in Afghanistan. The global nephrite market is estimated at 1200 tonnes per year, and the majority of the consumption is in Asia. Price of raw jade also varies significantly depending of the quality of the jade. The best nephrite is usually bought by master carvers or high-end manufacturers and transformed into expensive jewellery or artwork pieces, which are always in demand internationally.
