Stone Information

what does bardiglio mean? It ends “bardiglio” identifies a type of marble costituito of saccaroide calcare, con tinte grigie di toni vari, spesso molto scuri . Il Bardiglio di Carrara is a compact, delicate and very fine, durable and easy to wash media.

Types of bardiglio

There are three main types of bardiglio, the "common" one, the "dark" one and the "flowery" one.

The common bardiglio

The common bardiglio, abundant in Seravezza and Stazzema , in the Apuan Alps , has a saccharoid or ceroid structure and is very suitable for polishing. The color is bluish or light cerulean, with shades and transitions to the bardiglio fioreto, which also belongs to the group of veined marbles. The more or less dark color is due to the presence of microcrystalline pyrite . [1] The gray of Verona and that of Asturias are very similar to the bardiglio in terms of their color and their structure.

The dark bardiglio

The dark bardiglio is distinguished by a darker shade and a lower presence of white shades in the veins.

The flowering bardiglio

In the variety called bardiglio fioreto the general characteristics of the common bardiglio are maintained. But in the bluish or light cerulean field of this, very copious veins of almost black color are added. These veins, depending on thin layers meandering through the mass of the marble, are more or less extensive depending on the direction in which the sections are made. It is found together with the Bardiglio municipality in the surroundings of Stazzema and Serravezza.

Disused bardiglio quarry in Aymavilles.

Among these silicate marbles we remember the "bardiglio of Villeneuve ", also called " Aymavilles marble ": various quarries from the Roman and subsequent periods can be identified in the territory of the two municipalities. Among the oldest artefacts are the Eneolithic stelae from the megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans . The Aymavilles bardiglio was also used to create various monuments of Roman Aosta : it is found for example in the colonnade of the cathedral cloister and in the Praetorian Doors . [2] It is also widely present in the Aymavilles castle and other local architecture. [3] The bardiglio of Aymavilles has a bluish-grey tone that recalls the "bardiglio of Luni", in Carrara. [3]

The volpinite extracted in Costa Volpino is also improperly defined as "bardiglio" ("bardiglio from Bergamo") , whose appearance is similar to that of bardiglio marble, even if it is an anhydrous calcium sulphate , which therefore belongs to the gypsum family .

The Bardiglio Nuvolato is a brown Alpi Apuane, compatible with gray-blue inside color, characterized by irregular gray color and white color fumes and a soft-resistant marble , durable media and easy to wash, ideal for indoor use. ed esterni.
