Stone Information
The Lasa marble deposit belongs to a line of further isolated marble deposits of the Ortles-Cevedale Group in the southern valley of Val Venosta , which lie close to and parallel to a major geological fault line, the Insubrian line . These marble deposits are to be pursued as a band from Laas in the west to the Pusteria Valley in the east. Not all the marble deposits in this area have been extracted using ashlars . They are usually embedded in polymetamorphic gneisses , which have gained in the course of their creation a medium to high degree of conversion. South of Laas occur in addition to Mycenaean mylonitisierten schists , paragneisses and amphibolites of predominantly white marble at the surface (together called "Laas" unit).
This powerful marble storage on the north-eastern flank of the Ortles Group includes deposits of approximately 500 million cubic metres. It is located about 40 kilometers west of Merano and was formed 400 million years ago during the Hercynian orogeny when limestone stored in northern Africa was transported across the continental drift of the plate to the Laas area. This limestone was transformed by heat and pressure into marble. [13]
Lasa marble is frost resistant and suppliers are guaranteed resistance to anti-freeze ice. Its calcium carbonate content is 96.4 to 98.6 percent. The fresh fracture compressive strength is approximately 118 MPa. Quartz and mica layers are included , and there are larger calcite crystals in the rhombohedral structure . [14]
Other mineral components in this rock are actinolite , dolomite , pyrite , titanite , rutile , and zircon . [14]
