Description

A three-storey sandstone quarry with a height of approx. 27 m is located on the northern edge of the village of Řeka, west of the road passing through the village, on the eastern slope of the Godula hill. The quarry is located about 300 m west of the Řeka – Guty quarry, which is located on the other bank of the Ropičanka river. Mining of the Těšín (also Godula) sandstone in the Řeka quarry takes place primarily with the use of expanding material (Cevamit), possibly also by blasting. In the upper parts of the quarry, the sandstone is more weathered and the individual layers are only tens of cm thick. In the lower part of the quarry, it is also possible to mine monumental blocks (thickness of layers up to 2 m). The quarried stone is processed in the quarry with wedge hammers into products of rough stone production.
