Beware of product substitutions. Amazingly there are still a few cowboys and fly by night companies out there that will have no qualms in trying to substitute inferior and non-compliant products for specified systems. Not only is this illegal but there is a very real chance of issues arising from improper installation such as stone falling from the wall, possibly from a height. There is also every chance of ending up with a leaky home due to a lack of water proofing in these installations. Councils are quite understandably on the lookout for this type of thing and will refuse code compliance if non-compliant products are found to have been used. Not only that, they are likely to require the wall to be pulled down and reinstated to a proper standard. Our advice: don’t go there!

There are also a number of companies out there passing off coloured concrete as “stone”. Some of these fake stone veneer companies will try to fool you with such blatantly false claims as “The only stone veneer in New Zealand to have successfully completed testing for E2/VM1 (Weather-tightness)“. They know this is untrue.

Some fake schist veneer companies claim their product to be “the most realistic“, “the only UV tested” or “the highest quality“. Don’t be fooled. These claims simply do not stack up. No fake stone comes close to the real thing in either looks or durability.

NB: Our stone is real and has no need for UV testing.

Maybe even worse, companies that have been in business 4-5 years will offer you 50 year warranties and the next will top that with 51 years. These warranties are simply a gimmick and offer the customer no protection at all. Keep it simple. Keep it Real.

In addition the Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System is classified as a medium weight claddingunder the NZ Building Code. This is the same weight as fake stone veneers.
