Located in the heart of Vermont"s slate valley, The New England Slate Company has been serving customers around the world for more than 30 years. In the slate industry, varieties of slate are distinguished by their color. Since slate is a 100% natural product there are no dye lots or exact mixes of pigments to be controlled, only the unique beauty created by Mother Nature. Colors are not discrete, separate items, but ranges on a continuum and like snowflakes, no two pieces of slate are identical. Pieces extracted from the same section of the quarry may have subtle differences in color, inclusions or markings. With tens of thousands of years of sediment required to form 1" of slate, these subtle differences in color and texture are to be expected.
