Description:

Kocber sandstone is a fine-grained, gray-white to yellowish quartz sandstone, one of the hardest and most durable sandstones currently mined in the Czech Republic, whose exceptional quality was proven by an extensive study comparing sandstones from different localities.

The Kocber quarry is located in eastern Bohemia in the Králové Hradec Krai. The quartz sandstone quarried here belongs stratigraphically to the Upper Cretaceous sandstones (Cenomanian, Peruc-Korycan Formation, Korycan Layers) of the Czech Cretaceous Basin, or Labian facies area of this geological unit. Permian sediments form the base of the Upper Cretaceous sediments.

Fine-grained to medium-grained quartz sandstone of grey-white to yellowish colors is mined in the quarry. From the petrographic analysis as well as from previously performed chemical analyses, it follows that it is a sandstone with a high content of quartz. The thickness of the usable raw material ranges from 10-12 m and the recoverable amount of sandstone is estimated at almost 360,000 m3. The quarry is spread over three layers.
