Product Description
Rosso Levanto Marble is a precious variety of red marble, quarried near Levanto village, from which it takes the name, and in the adjacent area of the Riviera della Spezia.
The excavation of Rosso Levanto Marble is very ancient, as witnessed by some Etruscan archaeological pieces made with this material. In the past, the production was concentrated in open air quarries, along the coast near La Spezia, around Levanto.
Thereafter, Rosso Levanto Marble became one of the coloured marble used by the Roman. In this period it was employed for cladding, columns and precious floors.
The extraction, which reached its maximum between the end of the 19th century till the thirty, is presently very limited and concentrated in few quarries.
Geologically it consists of ophicalce with red-blood background, with white calcites veins turning to purple red, rare quartz concentrations and some green serpentine inclusions. The prevailing red colour is due by the presence of hematite. The peculiar chromatic aspect, the polishing characteristics and the durability of Rosso Levanto Marble, made it a very successful material.
Rosso Levanto Marble is used today for luxury floorings and claddings, both inside and outside.
If polished the surface becomes very bright, enhancing the chromatic effects of the red colour veined with white and green. This material is very suitable to floorings and prestigious claddings.
