Belgian bluestone is a very traditional natural stone that has been used for centuries in the architecture of our country and neighboring countries. Thanks to its excellent properties, the stone became one of Europes best building materials due to its very low water absorption and high frost resistance. It is a so-called crinoids-limestone, a sedimentary stone made up of remains of marine life (mostly crinoids) and plants in a thick limestone layer hardened during a process that took millions of years. This former sea cut through Europe from Ireland to present modern Germany. The sediment layer is the most widely represented in the area just below Brussels (Belgium), in the basin of Ecaussines.
