Jezersko Tuff

CHARACTERISTICS: Tuff, or "light stone", as local people call it, is extremely porous and perforated carbonate mineral, still nowadays being formed along the waters. It was created in quarter and continuers to be created now. It is a light yellow brown mineral with a nicely preserved structure of petrified organic particles coloured brown by mixtures of iron alloys. Easy to be treated and not suitable for supporting elements.

COLOUR: light brown yellow
TEXTURE: hollow, non-homogeneous, especially as regards the size and shape of holes and caverns. The appearance of the mineral changes also by colour, cracked surface, mechanical qualities and the contents of bits of other minerals among the plant fossil remains we find in particular the prints of grass, moss, stems, leaves and twigs exceptionally, there are also parts
of tree trunks. Tuff has unevenly porous grains varying from 10 to 15%, and in some parts even more
MINERAL COMPOSITION: calcite (approximately 96 to 98 %), traces of dolomite, limonite
STRUCTURE: grainy
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: about 54 % CaO. Loss on ignition up to 42 %.

APPLICATION: tuff is treated easily It's not suitable for grinding and polishing due to porosity. The structure, texture, barren inputs and geological age affecting the solidity of tuff determine the type of treatment. Tuff is a highly appreciated raw material in the natural stone
industry. Its quality and applicability have proven by a traditional extraction and a successful sale at home and abroad. Blocks and smaller pieces are used to saw plates for covering external walls and other facade elements (non-supporting arks, columns, shelves). Thus
installed, it is quite resistant against various weather conditions.
