Product Description

Churchyard Memorials
Memorials that are placed within a Churchyard must comply with the regulations as laid down by the Diocese for that area. These regulations are more restrictive than those for memorials placed within a Local Authority Cemetery, but are there to preserve the natural setting of the churchyard and ensure that all memorials are in keeping with the surroundings. To ensure all memorials adhere to the regulations, a permit has to be applied for, a fee paid and authorisation gained prior to the memorial being placed. We will make this application on your behalf with the fees payable added to our invoice for your convenience.
There can be slight variances around the Kent & Sussex region so the following is a general guide to what is not acceptable
Marble or Granite memorials (EXCEPT unpolished light grey granite)
Open book, heart or cross type memorials
Memorials less than 2’ 6” high or more than 4’ 0” high (other than in specially designated areas)
Gold, silver or leaded lettering (with other paint finishes severely restricted)
Pet names within the inscription
Carvings or motifs (i.e. football badges) that are not in keeping with the churchyard setting.
However, Burslem are still able to offer a wide range of natural stones that are suitable for use in the churchyard which include Portland, Nabresina, Yorkstone, Black Slate, Green Slate and Purbeck alongside advice gained from over 130 years of experience in producing memorials.
