This planter built in Glen Mills, PA is made of rectangular split quartz sourced from the same barn ruins that the "http://www.newgrangemasonry.com/project.php?id=4">Wine Rack Alcove was built from. A young maple tree is planted in the center of the 12 foot wide circle, with ample room around the edges for seasonal plantings. This project began as a wooden ring form nearly 11 feet wide and 18 inches tall. 220 feet of re-bar forms 4 continuous rings that re-enforce and tie together the concrete foundation and backing.
A 6 inch thick concrete footing and backing supports the 8 inch thick quartz veneer. 2 inch thick veneer stones cap the ring in a random pattern. I took the liberty to cut and set triangles of purple iridescent flagstone at the 8 compass points in the stone cap. The stonework was then flush pointed with white cement to bring out the rich orange and blue hues in the fresh split quartz faces.
