Britannicus Stone's beautiful Serpentine bowl designed by @Abrantes Carla
This remarkable stone was created millions of years ago when peridotite, a rock rich in magnesium and iron, was drove upwards from beneath the earth’s crust. Through the process geologist refer to as serpentinisation (a form of metamorphism involving heated seawater) the peridotite was transformed into serpentinite. This happened far below the ocean, in the area that is now the south west coast of Britain. Serpentinite is a rock comprised of serpentine group minerals, and is often referred to just as simply Serpentine. Britannicus Stone offer two varieties of Serpentine a red and a green which George Bullock used for his a number of items of furniture due to it’s rare and highly decorative nature. Red Serpentine is polished in the same way as Britannicus’s polish its British marbles and limestones. It’s a stone that presents minimal calcite veining and can only ever yields small size slabs. It cannot be guaranteed that new Serpentine slab will match exactly samples given out. Typical Serpentine slab size 1 x 0.5m however varies.
