Product Description
Slate was formed from weathered ancient rock, processed by erosive primeval rivers, deposited at great depths of water, and compressed under exceptionally high water pressure and even higher rock pressures. All this gave it its unique structure, its so-called foliation.
Deep underground in the Rhineland Slate Range, we mine raw slate, and haul it to the surface via horizontal galleries and vertical shafts. Careful selection and separation of the poor from the usable material is necessary even underground; the good slate is then firstly mechanically sawn in our cleaving mills on the surface, then split into thin sheets, and dressed in jigs for the various applications. We also import high-quality roofing, wall slate and natural stone slate from Spain, and coloured slates of exceptionally high quality from other European mines.
The roofer with his traditional trade skills lays the slate in the most diverse range of patterns on roofs or facades. This foliated cladding provides your property with unique protection against damp, storm and frost. The enormous range of roofing variations, assisted by the colour nuances inherent in slate, gives your building a look which has, it is true, a single background colour, but a lively overall effect.
The diverse range of possibilities available using slate permit both architects, interior designers, gardeners and landscapers, on the planning side, and the roofer, on the trade side, to achieve any desired individual look for the property, both indoors and out.
