Object: test specimens (cubes and plates) of grey limestone.
Stone: a grey limestone breccia is composed of medium compact grey limestone (as base grain) and dark grey limestone (as binding material). The grain size varies from a millimetre to the size of a block.
Both the base grain and the binding material underwent organic infiltrations during both their creation and their Diagenesis (the stone changes from the original limestone mud to its current state); this process converted the material into a bituminous stone. This is visible from the stony limestone and the smell during the crushing.
The bigger grains show signs of a previous crack of the medium grey stone, which is welded through white calcareous spar. Therefore, the breccia is very compact and solid.
