Product Description

What is Marble?

Marble can come in a variety colours and this metamorphic rock composed of re-crystallised carbonate minerals, such as dolomite or calcite, can be used for many things. While it is most commonly used for building projects, such as vanity sinks, flooring, and walls, marble can also be used in sculpting and used as a dust for various art projects. Known as the “shining stone” in Greek, marble is also called “marmoreal,” or marble-like in English. This stone is aptly named because of its colouring.

What are the Characteristics of Marbles ?

Did you know that marble is actually a limestone that has been heated and been under pressure so that a calcite forms? Mineral deposits mixed in with the limestone determine the colour of the marble. For instance, pure marble is white. Did you know there are 17 different marbles from around the world? Marble may be beautiful, but pollution has left its mark. The finish on marble may not be durable because of pollution. Marble can be polished to improve its shine. Some homeowners, business owners, designers, architects, artists, building or housing developers; however, may not know the main ingredient in marble, calcium carbonate, is susceptible to acid. Acids can damage the marble’s polished shine (depending on the type). Natural elements, such as rain, snow, water, may also damage marble. These are some things homeowners should consider before installing or using marble.

How to Care for Marble and Marble Vanities, Tiling, etc?

Marble can be easily cleaned by dust mopping with a dry, non-treated, clean mop can remove debris from a marble floor and not leave scratches. Stone soap (found at hardware stores or mild dish detergent) can be used to clean vanity sinks and counter surfaces. Do not use too much water or soap because you can create streaks. Lemon cleaners and vinegar should not be used because of the acidity in the cleaners. Scouring creams should also not be used because they may scratch marble vanities and counters. Ammonia and water may get rid of soap scum and a thin layer of automobile wax on a vanity sink can get rid of the hard water spots and keep your bathroom looking nice.
