Painswick is a stone which only occurs locally North of Stroud in Gloucestershire. Painswick stone is fantastic for flooring and is used for listed buildings throughout Gloucestershire.
Painswick stone is a grain prominent oolitic limestone.
Painswick stone gained an enviable reputation for carving and decorated work of all kinds. It was used for local buildings, church altars and pulpits, for fireplaces, staircases and landings and in greater quantities for plain paving.
