ONIX MARBLES FROM BRAZIL

This is one material of our exclusive line of Onix-Marbles from Brazil. All of them are translucent as you will see by the attached pictures.

The semi-quartzites are hybrid materials. This is because they are a natural mix of marble and quartz (onyx/silica). They have the aspect of a marble, but, their hardness range between granite’s and quartzite’s. Just as a refference, the quantity of silica embedded in granites ranges from 2% (black materials such as Sao Gabriel, Aracruz, etc...) up to 50% (Capao Bonito red).

On the other hand, for a material to be considered as a quartzite it must have at least 75% of silica in its composition. So, our semi-quartzites stones range from 25% to 65%. This high concentration of silica also causes them to be translucent and their finishing result (specially gloss) to be more similar to granite’s. The tools to be used in such materials must be those used for granite, and not marble.
