Pietra di Matraia is an “Arenaria” (Italian type of sandstone) made of a quartz-feldspathic composition, grey in colour with the natural stone structure visible on its finished surface. Stratigraphically correspondent to the “Macigno” sandstone of the Chianti region, it is characterized by high general physical-mechanical performance features and is resistant to alterations. This stone has a high aesthetic and composition value that make it appropriate both for new constructions, with particular care for details and for pairing with other materials, as well as in the recovery and restoration of existing buildings, also in environmental contexts of historical interest and architecturally prized value. Widely used for external works, Pietra di Matraia is also well suitable for internal use also with ornamental finish with final mirror-effect polish, an exclusive property of this stone
