Slate Stairways
Canadian slate is the ideal material for stairs. It is not slippery. Unlike wooden stairs, there is no need to re-varnish, even if you have heavy foot traffic or animals with claws. Also, like all natural stone, years of footsteps add to the natural warmth of its appearance. We can build stairs to your specifications in our workshop. We cover the entire stairway : stairs, risers and stringers.
Technique
Glue onto a base of two layers of plywood 5/8’’, which are themselves glued and screwed together. ( Use just one layer for the stringers.)
The steps are calibrated to a thickness of one inch, and the risers half an inch.
