Sandstone is a sedimentary stone, consisting of small particles of sand "cemented" together by silica over time. The iron oxide content of the stone plays a significant role in its colouring and any "banding" featured within the stone. It is soft in comparison to granite and marble and as a result cannot be polished. However it is ideally suited for use as cladding, paving, stairs, retaining walls and capping.
