Travertine is a natural stone with beautiful variations. During it formation as a middle stage of limestone evolving into marble, it has been highly affected by the forces of underground springs and waters. It contains voids (air pockets) of various and random sizes caused by carbon dioxide bubbles that became trapped during the formation of the stone. These voids truly lend travertine a depth not found in other types of tile. Romans used travertine for building temples, the Coliseum and a great variety of their architectural wonders; it’s also used in other latter built architectural masterpieces as the Sacre-Coeur Basilica in Paris.
