The quarry of Grigio Imperiale marble and Pietra Brown Marble is located in the province of Lucca in an area between the Alps and the Tosco-Emiliano Apennines.

The formation of these marble goes back into the distant past: to atleast 175 million years ago or in the lower JUrassic.

The material from this quarry has been used since ancient times for the construction of houses and building in the villages adjacent to the extraction area.
