marble pebbles, crushed marble , calcium carbonate
The X-ray diffraction method and the petrographic analysis determine that the purity of these marble samples is between 93 and 98%. The rest are quartz crystals and traces of other components.
Macroscopic Description:
Massive-looking, grayish-white rock with traces of superficial weathering. Fault striae and slight fracturing are observed.
Microscopic Description
• Texture
Rock with a granoblastic texture composed of an equigranular mosaic of calcite grains (CaCO3).
• Mineralogy
The main component is calcite. Subrounded quartz crystals (SiO2) and smaller amounts of muscovite and biotite are also observed.
• Classification: Based on its texture and its mineralogy, the rock is classified as marble, a rock of metamorphic origin.
