Villamayor Sandstone Arches

The Villamayor Stone also known as Franca, is the key material used in most Historic Architectural Heritage of Salamanca (SPAIN) and surrounding areas.
Among his most notable physical characteristics, stresses his ability to cut and his word, and length, being so much filigree that supports their work that led to the designation of Plateresque. This facility should be fine till the softness that has to be extracted from the quarry, gaining strength with time and moisture loss.
It is usually fine to medium grained, brittle to the touch, with colors ranging from white-yellow and reddish-brown, depending on the iron oxide content.
It is classified as feldspathic sandstone-arkose, composed of quartz (40-70 ), feldspar (10-30 ), micas and clay shade (10-20 ). The surface oxidation provides the golden-brown tone caused the golden color of this stone when illuminated by the evening sun.
It is currently used primarily for building facades, sculptures and restoration of monuments. The parts used are varied, though the most common are the rectangular, 50-120 mm thick finish scraping
