Cardoso stone

Unique in its kind, which is found in the heart of the Apuan Alps and more precisely in a deposit, located in the Municipality of Stazzema which extends between the hamlets of Pruno, Cardoso , Stazzema, Mulina and Pomezzana.

The use of this material dates back to antiquity when it was used in construction both for its excellent physical characteristics and for its easy availability within the aforementioned area. With the passage of time it was realized that this stone, in addition to the aforementioned use, also lent itself very well to the creation of works of decidedly more refined workmanship.

Cardoso Stone

The Cardoso stone is a stone with a dark gray color tending towards blue.
It is a rock with not very deep metamorphism of sandstone formed by the weathering of rocks with a granitic composition.
Due to its mineralogical composition and its methods of genesis, the Cardoso stone has a notable degree of compactness and toughness.
It has excellent physical-mechanical characteristics of resistance to wear, sliding and tension, as well as excellent resistance to the degrading action of atmospheric agents even in the presence of extreme climates.
