Product Description

Stone Information

Blanc Perlé, also known as Cinza Penalva, is a granite with a white to beige-grey colour and a homogeneous, medium to coarse-grained structure. This speckled granite consists of white feldspars, transparent (beige)grey quartz and black biotite minerals. Concentrations of black minerals (biotite) may occur. This granite is quarried in our own quarry in Portugal. Due to the very good technical characteristics of the stone, there is a very high demand for this granite for different purposes, either for the funeral market as well as for road construction projects.

The Blanc Perlé Quarry

Since the nineties, the quarry has been extracting Blanc Perlé natural stone from the granite basin in Esmolfe (Penalva do Castelo). There are only two companies still active there today, including SGS – which is owned by Brachot. The quarry has a valid mining license until 2050 and has more than 1 Million cubic metres of reserves. The annual production of the quarry is estimated around 4.000 m³.

Petrographic data

Blanc Perlé is a magmatic plutonic rock, a granite with biotite.

  • Main minerals: alkali-feldspar, quartz, plagioclase, biotite
  • Secondary minerals: muscovite
  • Geological age: Carboniferous (350 – 280 Ma)
