PCBN is produced by high pressure high temperature(HPHT) sintering of cubic boron nitride(CBN) with a binder pahase, and there are mainly two types of binders: metal binder and ceramic binder. CBN shares the very same crystal structure, chemical bond and lattice parameters with diamond , therefore their performance in hardness and strength are quite similar(In hardness, CBN is just next to diamond, while CBN owns better stability in higher temperature (1400°-1800°). The wear resistance of PCBN exceeds 50 times that of tungsten carbide in cutting applications.
