Material, which had been quarried in Chiavenna since the Roman times, historically employed in making stoves thanks to its thermal properties and in earthenware manufacturing thanks to its high versatility. Medium-small-grained stone, dark grey-green coloured. Its oriented weaving of a planar kind (foliation) and its frequent concentrations (veins and lenses) of amphiboles and talc form ah homogeneous pattern with small stains of a changeable grey-green shade (speckled). In consideration of the natural origin of the stone, it is not surprising that it may results a bit patchy, both from the mineral and the from the weaving point of view. We should not take it in account as a defect, rather as a proof of its natural origin; due to its high talc content, the stone is soft to the touch, it can also be worked and cut in any ways and employed in all applications.
