The Estremoz is a white coloured marble, with thin to medium grain and a slight brownish coloured vein. It may present some occasional light pink / brown coloured areas. In terms of hardness, this is a fairly hard natural stone. Its main variations depend on the vein intensity, as well as type of white background and structure.
The Estremoz is with no doubt the most famous white marble from Portugal, with a well developed market in Portugal and abroad. Despite this, this marble has been over exploited, with only few quarries currently extracting it. Current availability and future reserves are both very limited, and production is quite low and exclusive.
The finishing that has given the most credit to this marble is the polished one, where it highlights its beautiful white colour and slight vein. It is also common to find other finishings such as honed, aged and bush-hammered.
The Estremoz can be commonly found pretty much everywhere. It is common to find it in cladding, flooring with medium to high utilization, diverse stonework, coverings and interior decoration.
